Located in Perth, Western Australia, Ursa Major trains in Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). The instructor, Jim Campbell has trained and competed nationally and internationally, and won several national tournaments across a range of weapon systems.
Members have the opportunity to train with medieval weaponry, compete in national and international HEMA tournaments and take part in medieval fayres and community events.
Historical European Martial Art (HEMA) is the study and application of the martial arts of the European countries from the 1300s to the 1800s. Ursa Major focusses on German longsword, dagger, sword & buckler and messer (a large knife, much like a short sword), though we're constantly adding to our curriculum. Currently we are expanding to include rapier, sabre and staff/spear.
